Review information

Our approach

We may publish or use information derived from consumer reviews, including aggregate ratings and review counts from selected third-party sources.

We do not treat every review on every platform as equally representative. In particular we:

  • identify the source of review-derived information where appropriate;
  • record retrieval dates and counts internally;
  • consider review volume rather than treating a rating based on a small sample as equivalent to one based on a large sample;
  • use documented source and normalisation rules;
  • investigate material anomalies that could make review information misleading;
  • correct review-derived information when we identify a material source, matching, or error issue;
  • avoid presenting the Top100 Venue Score as if it were a consumer star rating.

Sample size

A public star rating is not treated as equally reliable regardless of sample size. Review treatment accounts for the number of reviews and uses documented normalisation so that, for example, a very high rating based on a tiny number of reviews does not automatically outperform a slightly lower rating based on a much larger body of feedback.

The official reputation input must come from an approved source with real rating spread. A directory in which almost every venue displays as 5.0 is not used as the sole official reputation score. Extra review volume after a few hundred reviews adds almost nothing.

If the only available source has no rating spread, we do not score reputation at all, and we do not calculate an overall Top100 Venue Score from the rest of the model alone.

We do not represent that Top100 has independently verified every underlying reviewer.

No approved source yet

We have not approved a review source for official scoring. Until a source passes both use-rights and venue-level coverage tests, Public Reputation stays null and we will not emit an overall Top100 Venue Score.

We will not scrape a consumer directory. We will not weaken scoreability to work around the missing source. A later licensed adapter is a source-policy decision, not a change to the 13 category weights.

Third-party sources

Third-party review platforms operate their own collection, moderation and incentive systems. Our use of aggregate information does not mean Top100 has independently authenticated every underlying reviewer or endorses every review posted on that platform.

Fake and incentivised reviews

We do not knowingly publish fake review information or present concealed incentivised feedback as ordinary independent review information.

We do not currently collect first-party couple reviews. If that feature launches, a separate first-party review policy will be published first.

Reporting a concern

If you believe review information we display or use is materially false or misleading, say so through the contact page once a public inbox exists. Identify the venue, the source, and the issue. We do not yet publish a reviews inbox.
